Katie & Ashley
Katie and Ashley met at the University of Tennessee two years ago, at that time Ashley was a first year Master’s student, and Katie was a first year doctoral student. The details of what happened next are blurry and can be traced through thousands of text exchanges (Ashley had to change his text plan from 1500 messages to unlimited just to avoid hundreds of dollars in charges). After a few months, and some bumpy “learning moments,” the couple’s relationship grew stronger than they could have ever imagined.
They chose Nashville-based photographer Tara Kneiser of Dixie Pixel to capture their sweet engagement session. The group shot outside with Katie and Ashely’s two Boston Terriers.

Congratulations, Katie & Ashley! For more of Tara’s great work, visit her blog.

Children have the ability to make weddings feel magical and exciting. We’ve all seen the flower girl dart down the aisle to her mother’s side or the toddler held high dancing with their parents. Brides and grooms want all of the guests to be able to relax and have a good time—this includes parents! But how on earth, with all of the pastries and music, do parents get to relax with the little ones? The following are some party suggestions to keep everyone smiling.

No Empty Bellies
Have special snacks for the kids. I don’t know of many children darting for the shrimp cocktail. Plus, it’ll make them feel extra special to have their own exclusive goodies. Initially, candy buffets sound like the perfect way to make children excited to be a part of your special day. But whoa, sugar. No one wants a sugar meltdown on their wedding day! Have a kid-friendly cocktail so the children can feel fancy and participate in the toasts.

Give Them Space
Sometimes it’s nap-time—sometimes kids just don’t think it’s cool watching adults dance the electric slide. Whatever the case, try making a little space just for the younger folk. Set up a quiet area so the youngsters can get away. Lay down some floor pillows and comfy blankets. Set up a DVD for the kids to watch. The more relaxed the kids are, the more relaxed the parents can be!

Goodbye Bordeom
Set up an activity table just for the kids. Have a coloring station with coloring books, crayons, and stickers. Let each child have a disposable camera so they can help capture the moments (without running the risk of breaking those expensive digitals).

Here’s our third segment to Wedding Wishes! Enjoy!
Gene Kosoy | San Francisco
Rice
Because rice grows in abundance and rather quickly, it is used to symbolize fertility. Throwing rice at newlyweds is done to wish them a prosperous and fertile marriage. Many churches and reception halls prohibit throwing rice, not because of the myth claiming that rice expands in birds’ stomachs and kills them, but because of tedious clean-up and slipping hazards.
Not into rice or seeds, try some wedding bubbles or make some noise with wedding bell clappers.

Wishing Trees
Instead of a guestbook, why not have your guests sign labels for a wishing tree! Wishing trees, although around long before her time, were made famous by Queen Victoria, after being referenced in her published diaries. Often, wishing trees are found with either coins driven into the trunk or with white labels with written wishes hanging from the branches. A banyan tree, in Hindu mythology, is said to be a wish-fulfilling tree granting eternal life because of it’s seemingly never-ending branches.
Check out these handmade wish tree items: wish tags and a wish guest book!
Doves
White dove releases are beautiful ways to wish well-being on your marriage. Doves represent peace, purity, love, and fidelity making it the perfect symbol for your wedding day. Doves are specially linked with marriage because doves choose their mates and remain faithful to them for their lifetime. Go to Doves, USA to find a dove release business near you.
Love the idea but don’t want to risk the feathers and well, uh… other things that come along with live birds, check out these dove decorations: cake topper, chair signs, and hanging doves.
Whether stumbling upon a wish like a shooting star or going out of your way to pen a note and hope for it to come true, keep wishing and dreaming big! We’ll continue to do the same for all of you readers out there!

Phillip & Nicole
Phillip proposed to Nicole a few days before their engagement session with a 1940s heirloom engagement ring. They chose to have their portraits taken in the historic downtown of Jonesborough, Tennessee with Nashville-based photographer Tara Kneiser of Dixie Pixel.
Nicole grew up in a neighboring town, but chose Jonesborough because it’s the oldest town in Tennessee. Some of the buildings there date back to the 1770s. At the shoot, Nicole wore a bright yellow dress from ModCloth, and Phillip wore a pair of jeans with a black button up shirt.
The couple is planning an October 2011 countryside wedding, where their colors will be Air Force blue accented with orange.

Congratulations Phillip & Nicole! We look forward to seeing your wedding next year. For more of Tara’s great work, visit her blog.
