Pam & Reg
England-based photographers Mark and Marianne Earthy first met Pam and Reg at Pam’s daughter’s wedding. At that time, no one knew that Pam and Reg would be getting married a few months later!
The couple had been engaged for 16 years and often spoke about when they would get married. Reg’s 80th birthday was coming up and they had booked their favorite restaurant Biggles at Denham Aerodome, so they decided they would add their wedding into the existing plans. The Aerodome has a rich and interesting history, going back to the First World War when it was a training school for Flight Cadets. The restaurant was named after ‘Biggles’ (James Bigglesworth), the famous fictitious pilot and adventurer portrayed in an adventure book series of books written by Captain W. E. Johns.
On the day of the nuptials, a civil service was held at the Bull Hotel in Gerald’s Cross. After, Rev. Charles Overton gave a blessing at the Chalfont St. Peter Church. Reg’s son was his best man, Pam’s son gave her away and her granddaughters acted as the flower girls. Instead of reading excerpts from the bible, Pam’s daughter read from Winnie the Pooh stories. The reception/birthday celebration was held after at the Dunham Aerodrome. “It’s a great place” said Pam. “The sort of place where you can kick your shoes off and enjoy yourself.”
After the wedding lunch, dessert followed for Reg’s birthday. “It was a great day and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves,” said Mark. “It was made even nicer when Philippa (Pam’s daugher) gave us a present with a delightful hand written note thanking us for their wedding photographs – and the present? A lovely jubbly bottle of Pimms!”
